Important Guidelines

  • Your age category is based upon old you were on January 1, 2023. Cloverbuds (ages 5-7) are non-competitive and should complete the Cloverbud Record Book template.
  • Age Categories: Cloverbud (5-7), Junior (8-12), Senior (13-18)
  • Only include records from January 1-December 31, 2023.
  • A 4-H member may submit as many project record books as they would like.

  • In the upper right hand corner of the outside cover
    • Name, County, Northeast District, Project Record Category, and Age Category.

    • Your story should be no more than 4 pages.
    • It can be typed or printed neatly.

    • Introduce yourself to the judge.

  • Here are some things you COULD include in your story:
    • Introduce yourself and include any information you choose to share about your interests, family, hobbies etc. If you were given two minutes to tell someone about yourself, what would you say?
    • Describe how 4-H has made a difference in your life.
    • How did the project you are completing in this Project Record help you grow?
    • Who has helped you in your 4-H journey?
    • How has your 4-H participation helped others?
    • What are your goals in life?
    • Summarize your experiences in 4-H.

Section 3 – 4-H Project Focus

  • Give your project a unique name!
  • List specific things you learned and did in this project area this year.
  • List knowledge and skills gained as well as the things you learned how to do.
  • Please list the most important presentations, talks, exhibits, radio, TV, newspaper articles, tours, camps, judging events, workshops, and any other learning experiences in which you have participated related to your project.
    • Include dates and levels of participation.
      • Levels are club, county, district, state, or national.
  • Please list your work using a bullet statement, list, and/or chart.

      • holding officer positions
      • serving on committees
      • teaching workshops
      • organizing meetings

Section 7 Sr./5 Jr.– Awards and Recognition

    • List Project Record Area awards first followed by “Other 4-H Awards” earned in 2023.
    • Name the Award/Recognition and then what you received it for.
  • Awards may consist of livestock show awards, certificates, ribbons, etc.
  • Stating “No Awards Received” is acceptable.

Section 8 Sr./5 Jr. - Non 4-H Experiences

  • List non 4-H experiences you have participated in in 2023.
    • Church youth group, Scouts, sports, speech & debate club, Science Olympiad, Robotics Club, FBLA, FFA, FCA, etc.
    • Be sure to share what responsibilities you have had with these non 4-H experiences (club officer, team captain, event planner, etc.)
  • List Non 4-H Awards and Recognitions here
    • List type of Award and for what received
    • Academic Awards, attendance awards, Good Citizenship Awards, Promotion to new level in scouts or karate, etc.
    • Stating “No awards received” is acceptable.

Section 9 Sr./5 Jr. - 4-H Photos & Supporting Materials

  • Include up to six 4-H scrapbook pages, which may include pictures (with captions), news clippings, letters, certificates, poems, teaching tools, short stories, digital media, etc. Be sure to follow the guidelines closely especially the page limits.
  • Majority of pictures must support your project.
