  • Many euphemisms
  • 1 barrel of oil brings along 7-10 barrels of oilfield brine
  • Main methods of disposal:
    • Road Spreading – Calling it a deicer or dust suppressant
    • Injection Wells
    • Waste Processing Facility -> Landfill

Ohio Revised Code - 1509.226

  • Passed in 1985
  • Township, County, Board, etc. passes a resolution
  • File an ‘Annual Surface Application Form’
  • Statute is specific – “Only brine that is produced from a well that is not a horizontal well shall be allowed to be spread on a road. Fluids from the drilling of a well, flowback from the stimulation of a well, and other fluids used to treat a well shall not be spread on a road.”
