3D Printing in the Hill LMC

Carefully follow the steps in this presentation to create & print!

Step 1: Know the Project Requirements

Students may complete ONE 3D print per month.

  • YOU must design items to be printed. Do not just find random images from the internet.
  • Please do not copy an existing file.
  • Only original student designs from www.tinkercad.com will be accepted.
  • Designs must fit the parameters of our printers. Be sure to submit designs measured in inches. You will need to convert it from mm.
    • All designs must have a maximum build volume less than

4’ x 4” x 4” - no dimension can be GREATER than 4”

Step 2: Design Your Project

  • Make a student account at tinkercad.com
    • Be sure to select a student accounts then use your IPSD Google login [select the G for Google icon]
  • New to tinkercad? Explore the Learning Center under the Resources tab -- go through all 12 of the Starters
  • Familiar with 3D design? Choose the + New button at top right to start creating!
  • ALL DESIGNS MUST BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE - when in doubt, be sure to ask.

Step 3: Download Your Project

  • After you have created your final masterpiece click “export” at top right.
  • Choose .stl format and the download is now yours to share via email attachment.

Step 4: Share Your Project

  • Use school account to, craft an email to Mrs. Schutzenhofer
  • Follow ALL directions below when composing your email. If ANY of the steps are skipped, it will DELAY your item being printed.
    • Be sure your email is polite & follows all rules of grammar, including capitalization, spelling, punctuation, etc.
    • Include answer to ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS:
      • What are the dimensions [inches]?
      • What is the item you’d like printed?
      • What is the purpose of the print?
      • What color would you like - we have WHITE or RED available.
      • CONFIRM THAT THIS IS AN ORIGINAL DESIGN created by YOU!!!!
    • ATTACH your .stl download to this email.

Step 5: Pick up Your Project

  • After it is printed, Mrs. Schutzenhofer will email you to come pick it up at the circulation desk.
  • Be sure to check your school email.
  • We do NOT 3D print every day….no need to ask us if your project is ready. If you didn’t get an email, your project is not ready for pickup.
  • Most designs will be ready in 48 hours.
