Feedback Fridays
While our district was on all virtual learning, I began asking my teachers to submit one thing each week they wanted me to give feedback on from Canvas. Teachers could ask for feedback on a module, lesson, or recorded video from Canvas. They could ask me to join a Zoom for the upcoming week or look at a piece of student work. The options are endless. I gave each teacher feedback on what he/she submitted. If the teacher submitted something to me before 2:30 on Friday,
I allow them to leave work 30 minutes early (while we are on all
virtual learning and students were not in the building).

Thank you for sharing your Jan. 20th reading
video and activity with me. I love how you included the learning target on their first slide. Perhaps you could go over this on your videos just like you would if we were in the classroom. When you assigned the close reading activity and the activity with examining the photok students had to use higher order level thinking to complete them. This is a great way to do that virtually. The questions on the last slides were two DOK 2 questions and the others were DOK 1. A suggestion would be us to use the questioning matrix on our walkthrough to incorporate questions from each level.

Thank you for selecting your math teaching video for me to provide feedback on. As I reviewed your video, I was so happy to see you making use of Mike Rutherford’s Artisan Teacher Skill, “mental models” from our October PD. When you showed the students how to use “Make Your Mamma Happy,” you provided them a memorable structure for multiplying multi-digit numbers. By doing this, the students will be able to recall the steps/process!
Great job! Keep up the hard work.
Thank you for selecting the Math video and assignment from Jan. 21st for me to give you feedback on. Great job including the learning target on the slide and video. When you told the students a tip for knowing
the difference in an acute angle but saying “ahhh it is
so cute” and “oooopening up” for obtuse will help the
students to apply and master the angle types. Great
job sharing the real life examples and making this
applicable for students. Your assignment aligned
to the target and was a great way to assess what
the students have learned as you are just starting
angles. Great job modeling exactly what they had to
do for the assignment. I hope they are watching these
Great videos!

Thank you for selecting your writing module for me to provide feedback on. As I reviewed your video, I was so happy to see you making use of Mike Rutherford’s Artisan Teacher Skill, “mental models” from our October PD. Even though you don't credit yourself for coming up with the phone number strategy, you still used it to provide a memorable structure for the students. By doing this, the students will be able to organize and improve their skill of adding dialogue to their writing!
Great job! Keep up the hard work.

I love how you take the time to make a video to go over the learning target and success criteria. When you spend time reviewing what the students did the day before and going over what the students will be doing that day, I am sure this helps students to understand what you are expecting them to do and not leave out anything on the assignment. You used two higher level questions for the students to think about at home. Great job modeling how to find the
area and connect that to real
world (crackers). You do a
fantastic job making virtual

Thank you for selecting a module for me to provide feedback on. I looked at the teacher video, learning target, and exit slip. When you used a mental model of relating main idea to ice cream cone,
you made a connection for the students and helped
them to clarify the concept. Great job using one of the
optimizers we learned from Mike Rutherford’s
Artisan Teacher Talents. Your exit ticket aligned
to your learning target and lesson. I love how you
have everything laid out on your Canvas course.

Thank you so much for submitting your PE lesson on Friday for me to give you feedback on. I love how you now have the learning target listed on the first google slide. This helps the kids to know why they are doing the activity for the day. The activities you have selected are very engaging. I like how you have it as leg days and use different days to work on different things. Keep up the great work and thanks for taking on all the special classes this year while we are on virtual.

Thank you for selecting an instructional video for me to provide feedback on. When you model for the students how to type on the assignment and explain what they will be doing, I am
sure this will help them to complete the task without
issues. Spending that extra time modeling is always
beneficial! I love how you have the learning
target on your virtual classroom in Canvas.
One suggestion I have is to go over that target
with the students on the video just like you would
in the classroom. This will help them to know more
of what you are expecting. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for asking me to give you feedback on your instructional video for adding 4 two digit numbers from Thursday’s model. I like how you have the I Can statement listed at the top and you tell the students in the video what they are going to be doing for the day. When you stop in the video to ask questions even though it is not live, it really helps
the students to think about what you are asking.
You do a great job pausing and giving them
thinking time! Way to go! I love how you

Thank you for selecting a module for me to give feedback on. I looked at the reading module from Jan. 11. I like how you have your learning targets at the top of each page and how you go over that in the video. By doing this, I think it really helps the students to know what is expected of them for the day. When you had
them come up with their own /ar/ words, that
was a great way to assess their learning.
For the reading story on the next slide, is that
just for them to practice their story reading?

Thank you for asking me to give you feedback on your December 4th module in Canvas. I know that giving assessments virtually is a challenge, but by making a video of exactly what you would say if we were in person, is the best way for the students to be able to spell the words. I cannot think of a better way than having them submit
videos of them reading the story to you and
by typing their answers to the comprehension
questions. The only thing I would add is to
go over the learning target on the video. :-)
Great job.

Thank you for selecting an instructional video for me to give you feedback on. I like how you have the learning target on Canvas and you tell the students what they are going to be doing today. When you took time to show the students how to use the tool kit of the red/green/yellow = beginning/middle/end sounds and how to build the words in the at family, this should have added to their understanding. Taking time to model for the students is a great way to take away confusion and to assess what the students know and are able to do. Great job. I hope they are all watching the videos!

Thanks for selecting your math lesson for me to
observe and give feedback on. I really like how you take time to model for the students. By modeling one of each type, you should eliminate confusion with the students.
One suggestion: Your learning target says
I can understand addition is combining two sets of objects.
You might want to mention in your video how fingers are used as objects when counting. You could also model with using the crayons as counters since they had them out. This would give them two ways to learn using objects. :-)

Thank you for selecting your phonics lesson for be to provide feedback on. By taking time to teach phonics virtually and model the sounds for the students, you are helping them to develop phonemic awareness. It is provide this will enhances their reading fluency. Great job!
One suggestion I have is to take time to go over the learning target with the students on the video. You have it posted and you say what
they will be working on, but be sure to get them used to
hearing “i can.” Maybe add a success criteria. Let
them know this activity is showing you how well
they know the short A sound (formative assessment).

Thank you for asking for feedback on your spelling assignment for this week. I love that you allow student choice in writing their spelling words for the week. Giving students a choice allows them to take ownership of their learning as well as create something that feels authentic to them. One question I have about teaching spelling virtual and would like for you to clarify. Do you record a video each week saying the words and going over the sounds and/or word patterns? I went back and looked at spelling all week
and it Was just this same practice activity. No need to
