The Event - What is it?
This event has high school and college students competing in all sorts of trades areas.
To get here they would have qualified from their school & region to participate. These are the competitions for the Provincial level. Winners from here will go on to represent Alberta and participate at Nationals in Toronto on May 28 & 29.
Students competing are given a task to complete and a time limit to do so.
You can watch students work & you also have the opportunity to find information about Trades and try your hand at some activities.
High School students compete in:
Architectural Technology & Design
IT - Network Systems Administration
IT - Office Software Applications
College students compete in:
Edmonton - Edmonton Expo Centre
What is it??
Upon arrival, we will be greeted by staff. We will arrive at about 12:00.
We will start at an area known as Launch Pad for an intro movie.
You are then permitted to go with a group on your own. One supervisor will remain by the food court at all times. The others will be circulating.
In the past we have received a pair of safety glasses. Some of the try a trade activities will require you to wear them so do not put them down and forget them anywhere!
Some examples of past activities
Visit stations & look for the Try-a-Trade Activities
These will be marked by a T on the map, you are welcome to try the activities & unless otherwise marked, they are FREE of charge
What to bring
You do not need to bring much with you.
Lunch or $$
A light backpack will be useful. There is no where to put your bags, whatever you bring you must carry around. Think a string bag or a small backpack which is mostly empty.
The bus does not necessarily lock, so keep that in mind. Do not leave any valuables on the bus.
STAFF: Mrs. Warner, Mr. Rudnik. Ms. Phillips, Mrs. Richter
A note about cell phones
If you have a cell phone, you are able to use it for the day.
Your cell phone will be useful in scanning QR codes and getting in contact with friends/staff if you need assistance - email your teacher if you need help.
Remember rules for appropriate use of cell phones:
Depending on your path today, your cell phone may be a valuable tool.
LUNCH
Lunch will be on your own.
You may bring a lunch or bring some money to purchase one. Keep in mind, some items to purchase are a little expensive. Bring a water bottle, the drinks are pricey.
Schedule some lunch time BUT not right before leaving, you do not want to be holding up the bus.
We will meet in the hallway where we entered back outside at 2:20pm. DO NOT BE LATE!
We will not come back to the school for buses as we will arrive back around 4:15pm-4:30pm.
