HOW DOES MS. GRAFF USE AI WITH STUDENTS?

28 of 37

The Reality!

    • Our school district is navigating AI tools and guidelines for the classroom. Currently, students have limited access to these tools.

    • Teachers though have full access to AI tools

    • The next few slides are how I have adapted AI into my classroom.

29 of 37

    • In 10th grade at LVHS, students work on a public policy assignment to identify a policy they want to change, with many advocating for off-campus lunch.

    • They faced challenges finding information online until Gemini AI assisted us.

    • I often feel anxious about sending notes home to parents or guardians.
    • I frequently require donations for my classroom, but I struggle to find the right words to express my needs.
    • Gemini has been a great resource for assisting me with these situations.

Dear Angelica Pickles and Family,

I am reaching out to share an update on Angelica’s progress in English II and to express my support in getting her back on track.Over the past two weeks, our class has been dedicated to completing two major essay summatives. These assignments are a significant part of the term grade and were due for completion today.

While Angelica has been present in class, I am concerned that she has not been able to engage with the writing process. Instead of working on her essays, she has spent the majority of her recent class time playing video games. As a result, she has a significant amount of work left to finish.I truly want to see Angelica succeed and showcase her skills in these assessments. To help her move forward, I’d like to suggest the following:

    • Completion Plan: Angelica should prioritize finishing the drafts this week to avoid falling further behind.
    • Focus Environment: We will work together in class to ensure her laptop and phone are used strictly for academic purposes.
    • Support: If Angelica is feeling stuck or overwhelmed by the prompts, I am available to help her brainstorm or outline her ideas.

Please let me know if there are any outside factors I should be aware of, or if you have any questions regarding these assignments. I look forward to seeing Angelica’s hard work on the page!

Best regards,

Ms. Graff

    • As a teacher, I often find it challenging to create engaging warm-up activities week after week.
    • Gemini enables me to incorporate the skills we are currently focusing on, along with the students' interests, so the warm-ups can be enjoyable for the entire classroom.

Warm Up Examples

We practiced recognizing run-on sentences. Students were instructed to clap each time they encountered one. Additionally, take note of how Gemini incorporates student slang, like the term “cooked.
