Salty Ice Cream

Purpose

Testing which salt will get ice cream harder faster.

Hypothesis

If i use table salt and rock salt to make ice cream, then i think the table salt will make the ice cream get harder faster.

Materials

1 cup of half and half

½ tsp of vanilla

2 tablespoons of sugar

6 cups of ice

⅓ cup of table salt

⅓ cup of rock salt

2 1 gallon zip top bags

2 1 quart size zip top bags

Procedure

  • Mark 1 gallon bag table salt(Bag A) and mark 1 gallon bag rock salt (Bag B)
  • Put 3 cups of ice in each bag
  • Put ⅓ cup of table salt in the bag A and ⅓ cup of rock salt in bag B
  • Put ½ cup of half an half, 1 tablespoon of sugar, ¼ teaspoon on vanilla into each of the 1 quart bags and close them tight.
  • Put the smaller bags inside the gallon bags and close tight.
  • Shake the bags for 5 minutes
  • Observe and write down which one is more solid.
  • Repeat the experiment 2 more times

Conclusion

Both the rock salt and the table salt made the ice cream hard but the rock salt made the ice cream harder
