  • In early classrooms, each subject had a designated textbook, much like modern colleges
  • Were present in all classrooms until modernization brought other teaching methods
  • Still widely popular

Dictionaries and Thesauruses

  • Dictionaries were first introduced as a tool for learning how to read, spell, and pronounce
  • They are still used, but are less sought after with the decline of illiteracy and rise of better technology
  • Thesauruses were used as a tool to improve writing, rather than to learn how to

Public Schools, Private Schools, and One-room Schoolhouses

  • Early public schools were primarily religious institutions where Latin and the Bible were main focuses
  • Private schools were much like public schools, where they also mainly studied the Bible and an assortment of languages
  • One-room Schoolhouses were predominantly found in rural areas, where there weren’t many teachers

Primitive Versions of Current Technology

  • The Magic Lantern, which was an early version of a slide projector
  • Chalkboard
  • Radio, which provided classes on the air for any who could listen
  • Pencils, ballpoint pens
  • Overhead projectors

  • The Scantron System, which allowed for tests to be graded more efficiently

  • There are three primary types of electronic devices that we see: Computers, Ipads, and Phones

  • Primarily used in homes but through the use of laptops, can be taken anywhere
  • The least portable electronic device, but allow for lots of customization

  • More portable than computers
  • Bigger screen compared to phone
  • Some people use for drawing or writing notes rather than typing

IPhones

  • The most portable device
  • Roughly 97% of Americans have a phone
  • Primarily used for communication and entertainment rather than work

Online Classes

  • Began to grow in popularity since Covid
  • Allows students to learn from further away, or teachers to teach further away
  • Can allow for more classes to be taught
  • Allows for easier scheduling

Social Media

  • Allows people to expand information across the world
  • People can learn new things from social media
  • Need help on math? Look up a youtube video
  • Some information circling on social media may not be true, so watch out

AI

  • AI has began to grow in use
  • Many people use it to cheat, has become more noticeable
  • Can be very useful depending on how it is used
  • Takes information from the entire internet and may give false information

Future Technology

  • Primarily filled with AI technology
  • Forms of Virtual Reality may start being used
  • People may began to rely on technology too much
