The basics for A0
And get to know me
& What I do
Who am I?
I am Jordan Guerrero, a passionate person and native Dutch teacher for foreigners✨. I love teaching languages, finding connections between them and making you genuinely excited, while making it as logical as possible 😊. I am originally from Rotterdam 🇳🇬 and I have a standard Dutch accent.
I am also a biologist, and in my free time, which is scarce while running a business with 12 people, I like reading scientific articles about biology 🧫🔬, I love botany 🌿, learning languages, BJJ 🇧🇷, painting 🖼️ and much more.
I also used to be a software engineer and I studied linguistics in Switzerland. I have been teaching languages for 11 years now, as I had my first student when I was 16 and now I’m 27, soon 28 though!
Me and my super loving husband Sergey (Russian/Ukranian/Syrian) got married in December 2023 in Denmark 🇩🇰. He studied economics at the UvA, then switched to digital business and AI and taught for a while at MIT. But he liked working with me better, so since march 2024, we are running JeDutchy together.
From January 2025, for the next 2 years, Sergey and I will be very slowly travelling the world 🗺️, while working and I can’t wait! I’m so excited.
I speak: 🇳🇱Dutch C2, 🇬🇧English C2, 🇩🇪German C1, 🇫🇷French B2, 🇪🇸Spanish B1, 🇷🇺Russian A2, 🇸🇪Swedish A1. If you don’t know what these levels mean exactly, you can read more about them here
My vision
I believe that Dutch learning should be fun, logical and based on speaking. What I mean by that is:

Beginner’s Guide to Dutch Grammar
BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE
01
BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE
In a basic sentence the subject is first, the conjugated verb is second and then we have the rest.
We do have sentences where the sentence structure is different, but that is more advanced grammar, such as: inversion, dependent sentences or splittable verbs
Wij gingen gisteren naar de stad = We went yesterday to the city
Rowan loopt naar zijn tuin = Rowan walks to his garden
De katten spelen in de boom = The cats play in the tree
De parkiet eet zaadjes = The parakeet eats seeds
Het meisje kijkt naar de bijen in de tuin = The girl looks at the bees in the garden
De man is in zijn kamer aan het leren = The man is studying in his room
DIMINUTIVES
02
DIMINUTIVES
You can make a word smaller/cuter by doing this in Dutch. Which suffix to add, depends a little on the final sound of the word, but is irregular
Het + <word> + je/pje/kje/tje
DE EN HET
03
DE EN HET
“De” and “het” are the determined articles in Dutch, like ‘the’ in English and determine the ‘gender’ of the word. There are many more ‘de’ words than there are ‘het’ words.
You will need to learn these per word and there are only a few rules which can help you in some cases:
Het
De

DE NUMMERS

DE NUMMERS
We write a number in one word, up to the word one thousand.
After the word one thousand follows a space. We write the words million, billion, trillion, etc. separately.
