Capsize Activities

  • Is everybody OK ?
    • The Scot floats even when capsized
  • Go to the centerboard immediately
    • Protect yourself when the boat rights itself
  • Otherwise, free main sheets, etc. first
    • Main sail ‘sea anchor’, misplaced crew, …
  • Occupy and bail boat as buoyancy allows

43 of 43

Before you Capsize

  • Does you crew know what to do?
  • Can all of your crew swim?
  • Do you have anything on board that absolutely, positively cannot get wet ?

… or lost ? (Keys, wallet, … etc.)

  • Always sail with ‘a little’ centerboard
  • Good news … the Scot Floats!!

… stay with the boat until help arrives
