What’s a Grad Ad?

A Grad Ad is a page that’s dedicated to your graduate. It’s printed in a special senior section of the yearbook. They typically include photos along with inspirational quotes or messages to the student.

You can have an individual Grad Ad, you can share with a friend, or you can even create a page for the seniors on your team or club.

All content (designs, photos, etc.) are due February 8th.

Income from the Grad Ad sales helps to offset the high cost of the yearbook. Our books cost about $90 to print! It also helps pay for our journalism staff to attend training.

How do I get my page designed?

You have 3 choices:

  • You can send us all your content, then our talented designers will create a custom design for you.
  • You can do it yourself using the Jostens site.
  • You can do it yourself using the program of your choice (like Canva).

All options are due February 8th.

Option 1: Have a yearbook designer create a custom design for you.

Pros: No need to worry about learning a program or meeting printing requirements, limitless design options, you’ll get to modify the design until you approve it.

Cons: You may have to wait a day or two for turnaround of design drafts and adjustments

How to have a yearbook staff designer to create your custom page:

  • Pay for your ad to reserve your space.
  • Upload your content (photos, text, preferences, etc.) to this form by February 8th. Earlier is better, because we’ll have more time to dedicate to your design.
  • Typically within a couple days, you’ll receive a first draft of your design via email. Please review the design and let us know what changes you’d like us to make by replying to that email within the specified time. We will keep working to get it exactly the way you want.
  • Please remember that if you are sharing the design with someone else, you’ll need to send all your content in on one form or we can’t guarantee they will be together.

Option 2: Create your own design on the Jostens site

Pros: Very easy program, control over design and timeline, uploads directly to our yearbook without worrying about meeting printing requirements

Cons: Limited design options as far as colors, fonts, and layouts

How to design your page on the Jostens site:

  • Pay for your ad to reserve your space.
  • Go to the Jostens site and choose “Create a student ad.”
  • Create an account.
  • Select your layout, then add your photos and message.
  • When you’re done, choose “Preview and Buy.”
  • Ignore all the add-ons, and proceed to checkout, where you’ll “buy” your ad for $0. Jostens is not allowed to collect money–remember that you paid the bookkeeper.
  • Once your ad is complete and you’ve checked out, you’ll receive this confirmation screen and you’ll receive a confirmation email. They will automatically upload the design to our yearbook.

If you don’t get an order confirmation, you didn’t complete the checkout process! You can watch the Jostens tutorial on this page if you need additional help.

Option 3: Create the design yourself in a program of your choice

Pros: You have full control over your design

Cons: Knowledge and skill are needed to create design and be sure it meets printing requirements

  • Pay for your ad to reserve your space.
  • Click here for all our tips and tricks on making your own Grad Ad. It’s really important that you not only design your project to be the correct size and proportion, but you also need to save it in the correct format so we can upload it and so it’ll result in a high-quality print.
  • When your design is done, upload it to this form. It must be uploaded by February 8th.

No matter how you choose to design your ad, these are the most important things to remember:

  • Buying your Grad Ad now guarantees your space. We typically sell out well before the February 8th design deadline, so purchasing early will ensure we have a space in the yearbook for your design.
  • All content needs to be submitted by February 8th.
  • If you’re sharing a page, the design or content needs to come in together on one form or as one design, if you’re doing it yourself.
  • If you haven’t bought your yearbook yet, we have purchased enough extra for all our Grad Ad buyers, so there will be one for you to buy in April if you get a Grad Ad. I’ll email all Grad Ad buyers March 31 with instructions.
  • Contact Heidi at allenh@psd401.net if you’ve got any questions.
