Victims

Maila Bjorklund Anja Maki Seppo Boisman Nils Gustafsson

What Happened

• All four were camping on the lake
• Bjorklund, Maki, and Boisman were stabbed and bludgeoned to death
• Gustafsson was alive with only a concussion, fractures to the jaw/facial bones, and bruises
• Bjorklund was found undressed lying on top of the tent
• Killer had stolen wallets and some of their clothes, was wearing Gustafsson’s shoes

Evidence

Very little evidence was found

When the murder was discovered the investigators enlisted the general pubkics help in the attempt to find evidence. This led to the crime scene becoming contaminated.

There was tent in the foretst, it was where the victims were killed

Miles had bruises on his face

No weapon was found

Miles said he saw the kuller, it looked like death with red eyes

Suspects

Pentti Soininen:

Confessed to murders, hanged himself at a prison transit site

Valdemar Gyllstrom:

Confessed to murders one night while drunk, drowned in Lake Bodom 1969

Nils Gustafsson:

Had less injuries than others, only survivor

Arrest and Trial

Gustafsson was arrested March 2004 (44 years after murders)

Speculated that Gustafsson erupted jealously at Bjorklund and killed all three (due to fact that she had been stabbed after death)

Defense found him not guilty- Was acquitted of all charges on October 7th, 2005

-Children of Bodom, one of the biggest heavy metal bands from Finland, is named after this place

-August 19 Movie Based on the murders was released in Finland, received 5.2/10 stars
