Data Preparation Process

  • Forecast5 Analytics: offers software packages designed to analyze publically available data.

  • Early December: The New Jersey Department of Education released public performance information for all districts.

  • January 2020: Forecast5 Analytics transferred all state released NJSLA information to their database.

  • All the graphics included in this presentation were developed using the Forecast5 Analytics software.

Comparison Group 1: Notes and Observations

  • No single school district is the highest rated in all grade levels for Mathematics or ELA from one year to the next.
  • 21 of 22 school districts within the comparison group experienced three year results at two or more grades that resulted in a lack of a course performance trend at these grade levels.
    • The one district that did not demonstrate this pattern was a 7-12 configuration.
  • Performance comparisons differ in K-8 and K-12 configurations.

Comparison Group 2: Notes and Observations

Mathematics:

  • Individual district course performance fluctuates in mathematics from year to year, with the exception of Millburn and Bernards who score highest in grade 3-7 mathematics.
  • 6 of 6 school districts within the comparison group experienced three year results at two or more grades that resulted in a lack of a course performance trend at these grade levels.
  • When the two DFG J districts (Bernards and Millburn) are removed from the comparison, there is a much tighter clustering of scores at each grade level.

Comparison Group 2: Notes and Observations

ELA:

  • Individual course performance fluctuates from year to year for all districts.
  • 6 of 6 school districts within the comparison group experienced three year results at two or more grades that resulted in a lack of a course performance trend at these grade levels.
  • No one district is the highest performing district at all grades.

Comparison Group 3: Notes and Observations

Overall:

  • Warren Township students are well prepared for the WHRHS based on general placement and performance data provided annually by the high school.

Mathematics:

  • No one district is top performing for all 2019 grade level courses.
  • 4 of 4 K-8 school districts within the comparison group experienced three year results at two or more grades that resulted in a lack of a course performance trend at these grade levels.
  • Warren Township 2019 course math results are highest in 5 of 8 grade level and high school level courses.

33 of 36

Comparison Group 3: Notes and Observations

ELA:

  • No one district is top performing for all 2019 grade level courses.
  • 4 of 4 K-8 school districts within the comparison group experienced three year results at two or more grades that resulted in a lack of a course performance trend at these grade levels.
  • Four of six Warren Township grade levels have maintained positive three year ELA score trends.

34 of 36

Overall Notes and Observations

Mathematics:

Course offerings for advanced mathematics at the middle school level differ among districts.

  • Warren offers two levels of Algebra in grade 8.
    • Both levels are required to take the end of course NJSLA assessment. Each level corresponds with WHRHS course tracks.
    • Many districts only offer one level of Algebra I at the middle school level.
    • This course structure influences student profiles of grade 8 math and Algebra cohorts.
  • Math resources are currently under review to provide increased progress monitoring and updated resources.
    • Many of the comparison districts have updated materials in recent years.

35 of 36

Overall Notes and Observations

ELA:

  • Warren continues to demonstrate steady increases in overall ELA performance over multiple years at almost every grade.
  • Ongoing professional development continues in the area of ELA.
    • Gravity Goldberg, LLC is the consultant group that provides services.
    • Warren Township has a five year relationship with Gravity Goldberg, LLC
  • A number of high performing comparison districts contract with Gravity Goldberg, LLC for onsite ELA professional development.
    • Millburn, Wyckoff, Verona, Glen Rock, Ramsey, and Oakland are among these
