  • 3 Half Days (7:45am - 10:45am)

Preschool 3’s Developmental Skills

Social/Emotional

  • Interested in new experiences
  • Cooperates with other children
  • Role plays various people (mom, dad, etc.)
  • Becomes interested in fantasy play (e.g. imaginary friends)
  • Dresses and undresses with increasingly less adult assistance
  • Tries to solve conflicts during play (e.g. trading toys)
  • Follows adult requests (e.g. clean up your toys)
  • Begins to identify emotions (happy, mad, silly, sad)

Speech/Language

  • Answers simple questions: who, what, where, why?
  • Talks about events that happen in their world (at school, at a friend’s house)
  • Most spoken language is done following basic rules of grammar and contains 4 or more words.
  • Tells stories
  • Speech is usually smooth and flows without repeating syllables or words.

Sensory

  • Hears someone call him or her from another room
  • Television or radio are able to be heard at a reasonable volume
  • Utensil skills continue to improve
  • Drinks from an open cup with little to no spilling

Cognitive

  • Names some colors
  • Understands counting and knows a few numbers
  • Follows 2-3 step directions
  • Recalls/retells parts of stories
  • Understands the concept of same/different
  • Begins to understand sense of time: today, tomorrow, now, later)

Gross Motor Skills

  • Hops on one foot
  • Stands on one foot
  • Goes up and down stairs without help
  • Kicks a ball forward
  • Throws a ball overhand
  • Catches a ball most of the time
  • Easily moves forward and backward

Fine Motor Skills

  • Draws a person with some body parts
  • Uses scissors to cut paper
  • Draws circles
  • Begins to copy some capital letters
  • Zips zipper
  • Fastens a large button

Every child develops at his/her own pace. We embrace every child where they are and give them the wings to help them fly. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you are concerned about your child’s development.

The goal of Preschool 3’s at SRS is to reach these goals by the end of the Preschool 3 year. This list is not all inclusive-we teach far beyond this list. If your child is doing most of these things before coming to school, we will stretch them out of their comfort zone and build on his/her skills!
