Our main customers are sperm banks, because Conceiva gives them value on both sides of their business.

On the lab side, our microscopy tool gives sperm banks a more accessible way to analyze sperm motility directly from microscope video, without relying entirely on traditional CASA systems.

On the consumer side, that same sperm bank can make its donors available through Conceiva, where intended parents can browse and compare donors, use AI to understand their options, and connect with genetic counselors.

Sperm banks would pay a subscription to use the platform, with additional fees for services like microscopy analysis.

And there’s already a substantial market for both pieces: the U.S. sperm-bank industry is about $1.8 billion, and computer-assisted sperm analysis is a $143 million global market.

Therefore, sperm banks have a reason to adopt Conceiva on both sides of their business: reducing the time and cost of sample analysis while giving their customers a simpler way to find donors and move through the selection process.

End-to-end, intended parents can discover and compare donors with AI-assisted guidance, genetic counselors can receive better-prepared cases, and sperm banks can automate sperm analysis—all within the same platform.

“Why would a sperm bank use Conceiva instead of its existing CASA system?”�Answer: “ Thank you for asking, with conceiva, we are not claiming our hackathon prototype can replace a clinically validated CASA system today. Our goal is a more accessible, software-first workflow that analyzes existing microscope video while also connecting the lab side to donor discovery and counseling. Clinical validation against established systems would be our next step.”

“How accurate is your sperm analysis?”�Answer: “We have a working computer-vision pipeline that detects and tracks sperm and derives motility measurements from those tracks. We haven’t completed clinical validation yet, so we wouldn’t claim clinical accuracy. Our next step would be benchmarking against technician assessments and validated CASA systems.”

“What AI/ML are you actually using?”�Answer: “For microscopy, computer vision detects sperm and tracking follows them frame-to-frame. We then calculate movement and motility from those trajectories. Separately, our intended-parent and counselor tools use AI to help interpret donor information and prepare information for counseling. These tools are handled with google gemini. As a clinical product, working with trained medical professionals to understand their jobs is really key since we want a more data YOLO11n — fine tuned lightweight convolutional neural network fine tuned for sperm tracking�

“What does progressive versus non-progressive mean?”�Answer: “Progressive sperm are moving forward effectively. Non-progressive sperm are moving, but not making meaningful forward progress. Immotile sperm aren't moving.”

“Why do you compare pre-freeze and post-thaw samples?”�Answer: “Sperm banks freeze samples for storage, and freezing and thawing can affect sperm movement. Comparing the sample before freezing and after thawing helps show how well motility was preserved.”

“Isn't this just a sperm-analysis tool plus a donor website stuck together?”�This is probably the most important question to prepare for.�Answer: “The connection is the sperm bank. Today, the sample is evaluated on the lab side and then the donor is presented to families through a separate consumer process. Conceiva gives the sperm bank one platform spanning both sides—sample analysis internally and donor discovery, AI guidance, and counseling externally.”

“Who is your actual customer?”�Answer: “Our initial paying customer is the sperm bank. Intended parents and genetic counselors are users of the broader platform. That gives us one clear entry point rather than trying to monetize every user immediately.”

“Why would sperm banks pay for this?”�Answer: “There are two sources of value. Internally, we can reduce repetitive work around motility analysis. Externally, Conceiva gives their customers a simpler way to discover and evaluate donors and move into genetic counseling. So we're improving both the lab workflow and the customer experience.”

“How do you make money?”�Answer: “Our proposed model is an annual platform subscription paid by sperm banks, with additional usage-based fees for services like automated microscopy analysis.”

“What does the genetic counselor actually do in Conceiva?”�Answer: “The counselor remains the professional making the assessment. Conceiva helps prepare information beforehand and provides AI-assisted tools to surface relevant information, so the counseling session can focus more on interpretation and guidance.”

“Are you replacing genetic counselors?”�Answer: “No. The AI is decision support. It helps organize and surface information, but the counselor reviews it and provides the professional recommendation.”

“What prevents the AI from giving incorrect medical advice?”�Answer: “We deliberately keep humans in the loop for clinical decisions. AI-generated information should be traceable and reviewed by the appropriate professional rather than being presented as an autonomous clinical recommendation.”

“What about privacy? You're handling genetic and fertility data.”�Answer: Data security would be especially important because Conceiva handles donor, fertility, and potentially genetic information. For sperm-bank data, we would only access information that the bank explicitly authorizes us to use, and the bank would remain in control of that data. For sensitive family and genetic information, we would use encryption, role-based access, and data minimization so users only have access to what they actually need. We also wouldn't use private donor or health information to train external AI models without authorization. And before any real clinical deployment, we would build around the applicable healthcare and privacy requirements. Our prototype demonstrates the workflow; production deployment would require those additional security and compliance safeguards.

“What makes this different from existing sperm-bank websites?”�Answer: “Existing sites already let families browse donors, so donor search alone isn't our innovation. Conceiva connects that consumer experience with AI-assisted navigation, genetic counseling, and the sperm bank's sample-analysis workflow.”

“Why not just sell the microscopy product?”�Answer: “Microscopy is our strongest technical wedge, but the larger opportunity is the sperm bank's entire workflow. The same organization analyzing the samples is ultimately providing those donors to families. Connecting those sides gives Conceiva more value than another isolated analysis tool.”

“How would you actually launch this?”�Answer: “We'd start with a sperm-bank partner, validate the microscopy system against their existing analysis, and deploy it as decision support rather than replacing their current workflow. From there, we'd integrate their donor inventory and expand the intended-parent and counseling experience.”

“What's your biggest technical limitation right now?”�Answer: “Clinical validation and microscope calibration. We have a working prototype, but before making clinical claims we'd need standardized acquisition, calibrated measurements, and comparison against expert and established CASA results.”

“What's the X-factor?”�Answer: “Most solutions address one piece of the process. Conceiva combines a real computer-vision application inside the sperm bank with the experience families and counselors use afterward. The X-factor is connecting the physical sample to the eventual donor-selection journey.”

How would Conceiva integrate into a sperm bank’s existing workflow?”

Sperm banks already collect samples, analyze them under a microscope, freeze and store them, and then list qualified donors for families to choose from. Conceiva fits into that existing process rather than replacing it. On the lab side, technicians can upload their microscope videos for automated motility analysis and review. On the consumer side, the bank’s existing donor profiles can be integrated into Conceiva, where families can search and compare donors, get AI guidance, and connect with genetic counselors. So we’re connecting steps sperm banks already perform rather than asking them to completely change their workflow.

How does conceiva plan to store data?

That is a really good question. Currently, we have a toy database since it’s a hackathon. However, we plan on focusing future efforts on working directly with Sperm Banks to directly incorporate their databases. We plan on using AWS DataSync & Snowball and AWS HealthLake as we transition from a toy database to connecting a global network of sperm banks with couples looking to grow their family.
