English 1 Honors/Pre AP

Students are not required to purchase their own copies of the novels we will read in class. However, in order to avoid sharing novels, and to allow students to annotate their text, it is recommended that they purchase copies if possible.

English 1 Honors/Pre AP

In May the students will be required to take a final exam in English 1 Honors/Pre AP. This final will count 20% of their final average.

  • Weekend homework as needed
  • Teacher is available for help by appointment before school
  • Attendance is crucial!!!
  • Students are expected to make up work immediately

Geometry Honors

Attendance and Homework

The honors level courses move very quickly.

  • It is important for your child to be present every day, so they do not fall behind. Please try to schedule appointments around these classes.
  • Turn homework in on time. Turning in homework late could be detrimental to your child’s success. It is very difficult to catch up if you fall behind on assignments.

High School Credit

  • In order to move on to the next honors level high school course, it is recommended for students to earn an 80 or above.
  • Students that receive high school credit for English 1 Honors/Pre AP and/or Geometry Honors will start their high school GPA.
  • All high school credit courses attempted and the final grades will appear on the student’s transcript.

High School Credit

Withdrawing from a course:

  • Students that withdraw within 10 days will do so without penalty.
  • Students who withdraw from a course after 10 days with administrative approval will be given a WP for the course.

Retaking a course:

  • A student may retake a high school class taken during middle school regardless of the grade earned.
  • All course attempts from middle and high school will show on the transcript.
  • Only the highest grade will be used in figuring the student’s GPA.

Monitor, Adjust and Stay Calm...

  • It may take a few weeks for your student to adjust to the rigor, pace and expectations for these high school courses.

  • Please stay in communication with your child’s teacher if they are struggling so they can provide suggestions/recommendation.

  • The teachers will monitor your students’ progress and make recommendations that are in their best interest.

  • At the four week mark, we will review students’ progress for placement changes if needed.
