What is AIG?

AIG stands for Academically & Intellectually Gifted. All people have gifts and strengths! (Yes, you too.) This program is specifically designed to support those with academic and intellectual giftedness in the traditional school setting.

Who can nominate?

Usually parents and teachers nominate, but anyone can nominate a student! Students can even nominate themselves.

Nominations are accepted all year but CogAT and Iowa testing for 2nd-5th Grade AIG placement only happens twice a year. Testing typically takes place in the Fall & Spring. Students can also qualify through the portfolio process (we use all testing data, work samples, and feedback from teachers and parents to determine eligibility).

If Kindergarten and 1st grade students are recommended for an early evaluation, they must pass two tests at or above the 98th percentile with the AIG Department Psychologist.

What does it mean if a student qualifies?

If students qualify in a subject, they’ll be identified as Academically and/or Intellectually gifted in Math and/or Reading and have the right to gifted services. At Washington, this means they will sign up at least one AIG elective in their identified subject area during the school year.
