• The track and field at Norris will be replaced and a new material will go on the track and field that improves athlete speed by 10%. This is the first time a field of this type has been installed at a middle school
• Schools around the country are testing new AI technology. Next year Norris will pilot a robot AI teacher that will take the place of a regular teacher in the classroom. They are starting with AI bots for college and careers and will then try it with math classes.
• There is a series of underground tunnels that go all over the Norris property. There is a small train track for transporting heavy materials and escape hatches on the field, at the track, and in the front of the school underneath the front sign.

Norris Middle School has just announced that they will have a new tornado policy after the events of the Arbor Day tornado. After hearing the details, parents are posting on social media about how upsetting the new rules are. Some have threatened to boycott the school and are taking their concerns to the school board.

The new policy, which took effect on May 1st, includes the following rules. Whenever a tornado warning is issued, students will be escorted to a tornado shelter. In the tornado shelter, they will need to put on special tornado proof helmets and padded protection similar to catcher’s gear. Students will not be allowed to use any devices to make sure that it does not interfere with severe weather communications. Also, once the all clear is issued, students will need to wait an additional hour just to be safe.
