How can we overcome sin?

1. We have to change our heart’s desires to defeat pride
“I am busy” is the common excuse for not praying?
We can defeat pride through prayer
Prayer is a declaration to God and to the spiritual world that I need HELP, I cannot do it alone.
Prayer signifies that your heart desires to have a time with God.
Matthew 6: 22 - 23
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if
your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full
of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness,
how great is that darkness!
2. We need healthy eyes to see the light
A "healthy" or "good" eye represents a singular focus on honoring God. When your primary focus is on God's kingdom, your whole life is guided by truth, wisdom, and clarity.
We can defeat the lust of our eyes by seeking God’s kingdom as our priority
A "bad eye" implies selfishness, greed, and being obsessed with earthly possessions. It causes spiritual "double vision"—trying to serve both God and money at the same time—which ultimately blinds the soul.
Galatians 5: 22 - 25
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with
the Spirit.
3. We must crucify ourselves to defeat the flesh
Fasting puts your flesh desires in its place.
We can defeat lust of the flesh through fasting
Christianity is not about self discovery but self denial.
When you fast, you remove yourself from the throne
and put it under crucifixion to find the NEW YOU!!
Galatians 5: 16 - 17
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
Solution: We must walk by the Spirit
2 Corinthians 5: 17 - 19
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world
to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.
