Beginning of World War II

World War II began on September 1, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland with a blitzkrieg attack. In response, Great Britain and France declared war on Germany the next day.

    • Poland provided very little resistance to the overpowering Nazi army, which used its massive military and element of surprise to seize control.

The Holocaust also began to intensify as Germany expanded its power in Europe.
