The first Mandala appeared in India around 100 B.C. and was a symbol of the Buddhist religion.

 Each mandala has a center point that is surrounded by a circle, a perfectly symmetrical design of specific meaning, and an accompaniment of various religious deities and symbols.

A mandala symbolizes the universe. Its repeated patterns, colors, and shapes are meant to show how the human race is all connected and even heal the people and the land that is represented.

The three types of mandalas are the sand mandala, the healing mandala, and the teaching mandala. ��The sand mandala is a big piece of artwork that takes weeks to complete

The monks who work together to make the sand mandalas have a ritual for each part of the process, including the dismantling of it by brushing it away!

Today we will be making our own mandalas using beads instead of sand, placing each bead carefully in a radial pattern of our choosing!.
