  • Some have half online/half in person.

  • 90 minute blocks alternating days (green/white days)

What My Classes Look Like

Routine, routine, routine! Don’t abandon routines that you had online for your newly in-person kids….just refine them!

How I start my class: (Share Screen on Zoom AND in my physical classroom as students are coming in):

Example daily check-in:

Starting Class

  • I wait 2-3 minutes after bell has rung for Zoom folks to get in. Also helps students in-person get setup.
  • Great time for a bellringer (if that’s your thing!)
  • I use a daily check-in to make sure everyone is ok….usually it’s a meme :-)

BOOM

  • I always go over the Agenda and expectations for the day.

  • Also tell my students other announcements during this time.

  • Give 1-2 minutes of setup time to move to next task.

  • Depending on what we’re doing, I offer breakout rooms.

  • I set the expectation with online kids that I will be checking in every 10-15 minutes and need a response from them via chat or unmuting.
  • This gives me time to circulate the room with my in-person folks.
  • Online kids can still reach me during this time but they at least know ahead of time that I’m going to be roving around.

Checking In

  • I create a “Learning Journey Planner” for each unit.

  • Students have choice with some activities and it allows me to follow up with those who have missing work or need additional help.

  • Structured for both in-person and online learners in case we have to switch back to fully online.

  • Also gives students a planner to follow (organization is a needed skill!)
