Want to Help Your Child Succeed?

Practice Good Attendance

How Does Chronic Absenteeism Affect Learning? 📚📉

  • 📖 Lower reading achievement: Missing too much school can make it harder for students to build the reading skills they need to reach grade level.
  • Lower math achievement: Because math skills build on one another, missed instructional time can make it difficult to keep up.
  • 📉 Academic challenges can grow over time: When students miss school repeatedly or across multiple years, learning gaps can become harder to catch up on.
  • 📊 10 days is close to 6% of the school year—but missing 2 days per month adds up to about 18 days, or 10% of the school year.
  • 🚨 Students are considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the school year for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences.
