Objective: Brief overview of financial aid application forms (2 min)

There are a number of applications you will need to complete as part of the financial aid process. Here are some examples. While the FAFSA and VT Grant are recommended for all students to fill out, the CSS Profile is only required for certain colleges – you can find a list available on the CSS Profile website.

The applications serve as a starting point for colleges and agencies to identify your ability to pay.
Forms are required to be eligible for grants, scholarships, and loans.
Important to know every college may need something different; It is the student’s responsibility to know who wants what, where, and when.

RESOURCE: A College Financial Aid Checklist is available to print out online to help keep you organized. Look for it under “I am a student,” or “I am a parent” on the VSAC webpage

Once the FAFSA is filed, there is a link on the student’s confirmation page which allows students and their parents to link directly with the VT Grant Application.

On this slide, you can see the top of the confirmation page. The link to transfer to the VT Grant application is on the right. Transferring from the FAFSA to MyVSAC will carry over demographic information from the FAFSA to the VT Grant application. (Name, address, etc)

You will need to scroll down to see further information about EFC and estimated aid eligibility (only Pell and student loans).

This leads right in to talking about the VT Grant~

Also, if the student has siblings in college, this option might come up on this same screen, right below the VT Grant link. Parents can use this to transfer parent info from one FAFSA to another
