When is the library open?

• A few minutes before and after school

• Between classes and at break

• During class (only if you have a hall pass and your teacher calls library first)

What kind of “stuff” does the library have?

• Chromebooks
• One stop shop for all your chromebook needs.

• Color and Black/ White Printers
• Free to print as long as it is for schoolwork

Let’s Talk Chromebooks

• You must have a technology agreement on file.
• If your name sticker comes off your Chromebook or charger- Sound the alarm immediately! (In other words- let me know so I can replace).
• Do not draw or put any stickers of your own on your chromebook. (It’s school property and not a canvas for your sticker collection or Sharpie Doodles.)
• If you lose your chromebook, let me know. I will be glad to help get the two of you reunited again. :)
• Guard your charger! (Charger thieves are real, and they are out there!)
• If something isn’t working properly on your chromebook, let me know!! (If the screen goes black, the keys fall off, or it starts emitting smoke.. please bring to me.)

What is available for checkout?

• Books (2 week checkout)
• Reference (not available for checkout but we can make copies)
• Magazines and periodicals (on display to use in the library but cannot be checked out)

Be responsible

• It is your responsibility to know when your book is due.
• If you have an overdue book you cannot get your report card or check out another book until the book is turned in.
• Let us know as soon as possible if you have lost a book.

• All other school rules also apply in the library.
• ALL Cell Phones must be put in the pouch.
• Return Library items on time.
• Treat objects in library with respect.
• No drawing on tables, tearing books, follow computer usage rules.
• Be here when bell rings AND Be Kind!
• You never want to be tardy to the party.
• No profanity/ disrespectful language
• No hitting,pushing, etc. (even if you are playing)
• Keep noise down so we can all concentrate and study.

• Nonfiction books are organized by their subject. Call numbers (spine labels) range from 0-999 and have the author’s last name with the numbers.
• Subject headings are labeled in the library

Just Dewey it!!!

• System of library classification developed by Melvil Dewey in 1876;
• The DDS attempts to organize all knowledge into ten main classes.
• Helps organize and order books so that finding and returning them to their proper place is easy.

Biographies

• True stories about a person’s life.

Periodicals �Can’t be checked out

• Published on a regular basis
• Popular periodicals
• Newspapers and magazines (shorter articles and designed for general population)

- U.S. News and World Report, Discover, American History, Smithsonian, Psychology Today

- Automobile, Cabela’s, 4 Wheeler, Fitness, Brides, Teen Vogue

• Scholarly periodicals (journals written by experts for experts)
• Available through TEL; able to access information that cannot be found on Google

• Materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, and almanacs.
