Reading

• At St. Mark’s, we believe that all pupils should have the opportunity to be fluent and confident readers.

​

Please support your child by :

• Listening to them read every day
• Asking them questions about what they read, to check their understanding
• There are lots of different texts that children can read. They can also read and listen to stories online. The wider the range, the better!

​

Reading

• The Reading Record is very important.
• It tells us how often your child is reading.
• You can also use them to write a message to us. We will reply as soon as we can.
• An adult must sign the diary each time your child reads.
• Class teachers will check and sign Reading Records at least once a week.

Maths

We will be building on your child’s understanding of number, recall of number facts, geometry and fractions as well as statistics.

​

This year in particular, a big focus is on ensuring your child knows their multiplication facts up to 12 x 12 including the corresponding division facts.

​

There will be the Multiplication Tables Check in June 2026 (date TBC).

​

Home Learning

• Home learning will be set on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday.

​

• Homework will include Spellings, a maths activity including times tables practice and Reading. It will be acknowledge with house points.

School Uniform

• Bottle Green jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
• Green/White polo shirt
• Grey or black trousers, skirt, pinafore or summer dress
• Plain tights in school colours (green, black, grey or white)
• Black or dark waterproof shoes
• Plain hijab in school colours (green, black, grey or white)
• Waterproof coat

We are an OPAL school and as such our children spend as much of their free time outside, as possible, including when it rains. Children will need a waterproof coat clearly labelled with your child’s name and suitable, waterproof outdoor shoes.

Please contact the school office if you need any support to buy a school uniform.

PE Kit

All children should have:

• A pair of black plimsolls/trainers that fit comfortably – slip on variety for the Early Years and Key Stage 1 and either slip on or lace-up for Key Stage 2.
• A plain coloured t-shirt, in the school colours or St Mark’s Primary School PE t-shirt.
• Plain black shorts.
• Black or grey tracksuit trousers, may be worn during cold weather.

Jewellery

• One pair of stud earrings may be worn (no hoops).
• Any child with hair that is shoulder length or longer must have their hair tied up; hair bands must be appropriate for school and in keeping with the school uniform policy.
• No other jewellery should be worn except the Sikh Kara bangle/bracelet.
• Make-up and nail varnish is not permitted in school.

P.E.

• We have two P.E. lessons each week.

​

• Monday and Tuesdays.

​

• Your child needs to come to school dressed in their school P.E. kit on these days. Please make sure this includes a warm tracksuit in the school colours as we get into the colder weather.

Attendance and Punctuality

Getting your child to school every day and on time really matters.

Learning starts at 8.45am - soft start

You should not take your child on holiday during term time.

• Contact the main office
• If you have a concern, you should first speak to your child’s class teacher at the end of the school day.
• If you would like further discussion, you can then make an appointment with your phase leader, Ms Gilbert
• Mrs Allsop and Ms Booth, our Assistant Headteachers are always available to meet with you
• Then, your next point of contact is either Ms Jones or Ms Liardet.
