There must be empowerment
To create positive change, we need to be changed first; SOMEONE MUST HAVE TO HOLD OUR HAND to where we can start doing it ourselves.
MY 1997 STORY
An example of where we need someone’s external help until we are able to figure it out on our own!
The point is this: Isn’t it enlightening and humbling to acknowledge that, leaving all other factors constant, I am who I am, doing what I am doing right now, simply because of that one person, my elder brother, Geoffrey, who held my hand to school, and commissioned the empowerment for my dreams?
Paulo FREIRE takes it further and says It’s more than just empowerment.
He calls it ‘CONSCIENTIZATION’, some sort of waking up our consciousness, making us aware of our situation for action
People, especially the very many youth of Africa, of Uganda, are capable of doing GREAT THINGS. All they need is the opportunity and empowerment that comes with it! Empowerment isn’t a luxury but a prerequisite of socioeconomic development
