Attendance Point System

  • In order to earn your attendance point for each meeting, you must...
    • Sign out on the Google form at the END of the meeting and identify the Word of the Day
      • The Word of the Day will be displayed after the speaker finished presenting in the Zoom chat
    • Can’t attend the meeting live?
      • You will have 24 hrs from the time the meeting is published onto Youtube to complete the Google form + still earn full points!
  • There are extra credit opportunities (next slide)!

NEW: Kahoot and Extra Credit

  • Bonus: Members will have the opportunity to earn extra points by winning the Kahoot or participating in community service events such as volunteering or donating blood!
    • Kahoot: see below!
    • Community Service: send proof to deanzamoa@gmail.com to get extra points validated!
  • Kahoot: In the last 30 minutes of our meeting, we will play Kahoot!
    • the Kahoot will encapsulate what we heard during the meeting and will have around 15 questions
    • Top 3 players will earn 1 extra credit point each, which will go towards your attendance points
    • We will tally up everyone’s points at the end of the quarter!
  • The member with the most amount of points will win a $10 gift card of their choice!

Schedule

  • 3x12 hour shifts a week (sometimes 4)
  • Work more than 1 place (for different environment)

Flexible Schedule

  • Able to travel during week when hotels +flights are cheap
  • Note: didn’t have to look for residency after 4 years of medical school
    • Got married in Fiji instead!

UNI VS. PA SCHOOL

  • Learning curve?
  • How to develop good study habits now?
  • Content difference?

GAINING PCE/HCE, SHADOWING

  • Hours in EMS, fire
    • Great program, but low wage + long hours
    • Great decision + experience
  • If I could do it again…
    • strongly recommend: technician roles
      • Ultrasound tech, radiology tech
      • Great pay + schedule
      • Associate lvl: first 2 years of any degree prereq cover most (overlap credits)
    • EMT to paramedic: not as beneficial
      • Low cost benefit
      • More training + risk
      • Little increase in pay

TIPS + WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

There is NO RUSH!

Take fun/stupid jobs, explore, travel (max 7 years so credits won’t expire)

No one is judging you

No one cares when you graduated

No one ever asks your GPA after you graduate (anyone who brings it up is just flexing)

Work-life-balance is what allows you to sustain high stress job

Work is the same wherever you practice but practice environment + support/balance is what makes ALL the difference
