Fishing in Maldives

  • Traditionally fishing is the main occupation and major livelihood of the Maldivians.
  • the second largest industry in the Maldives
  • methods of fishing are pole and line for skipjack tuna
  • The main fish products exported are; frozen fish, canned fish, dried fish and salted dry fish
  • In the past Maldives tuna exported to Sri Lanka in the form of dried or smoked
  • In 1971 Maldives also fish products to Japan and Thailand.
