How it Works

The youngest person in your family received a copy of “Sideways Stories from Wayside School”. Follow the calendar below to answer crazy questions, participate in wacky challenges and win wild prizes! Each chapter has a special reader (each slide contains a video or audio file) from our community. Bring in completed activities to the office. Draws will take place throughout the entire month! Chapter 4: Sharie

Read by: Ainsley McCallum

Reading is super important in my job! From reading my favourite lyrics to learn new songs, to reading my favourite childhood stories to my students, I read everyday!

My favorite way to read is a hardcover book. I can spend an afternoon in a book store admiring the artwork on the covers or the book itself, as they are so beautiful and thoughtful. Growing up, I had a reading nook in my bedroom. Rainy days spent with a hot chocolate and a favourite book were the best!

Chapter 7: Calvin

Read by: Dr. Amy Cockburn- Family Medicine

My name is Dr. Amy Cockburn and I am a family physician in Sylvan Lake

Reading is a large part of what I do everyday. I spend time reading chart notes, medical reports and investigations on all the patients I see. I also type and edit notes when I see patients, to document why they came to see me, their diagnosis and their treatment. I also read medical journals, textbooks and guidelines to stay up to date on new and changing medical information.

I also love reading every night on my e-reader. I love fantasy novels, especially if there is are strong female characters. I am also part of a book club, where I meet up with my friends every month to talk about a new, interesting book we have all read.
