TWU Dual Credit Model

TWU primarily uses an embedded model, which allows students to take classes with familiar high school instructors while earning college credit.

Instructors are credentialed by TWU academic components

Essential Facts About Dual Credit

The student is a college student who must follow/receive:

• TWU Academic Calendar for deadlines
• Official TWU transcript
• TWU email address

Essential Facts About Dual Credit

• Grades will affect your college GPA.
• If you’ve earned college credit at another institution, you must submit an official transcript to Student Records.
• Students are limited to courses that are a part of TWU’s Core Curriculum, with permission from the high school.

Dual Credit And Family Educational Rights And Privacy Act (FERPA)

• Once the student enrolls in higher education, ownership of the student’s educational records belongs solely to the student.
• All dual credit students complete the Dual Credit Permission form annually, which states, gives the student’s consent to share their academic records with their parents or legal guardians and the high school

Financial Aid for Swift Transfer Program (FAST)

• The FAST program provides funding to participating public colleges and universities to offer dual credit courses to eligible students at no cost to them.
• Students who qualified for the free and reduced lunch program in any of the four school years prior to the academic year they are enrolled in a dual credit program, qualify for FAST.
• TWU is opting in to the FAST program beginning in Summer 2026

• Fall deadline is May 10^th
• Spring deadline is December 15^th

Students should check their application status regularly until they have been accepted by:

Logging into WebAdvisor with your TWU username and password

Select the “Applicants” blue rectangle

​

Review your account information, missing documents, and your application status

​

Registering For Dual Credit Courses

• High school counselors will help students select which dual credit courses they will take
• Students must self-register for their courses through Self-Service every semester
• Students are required to adhere to all deadlines in the TWU Academic Calendar

Paying For Dual Credit Courses

• The cost of a 3 hour dual credit course is $174
• Compare $174 vs $1,088 for a traditional undergraduate 3 hour course. That is a savings of over $900!
• Students can pay for courses through self-service or in person with the Bursar’s Office
