Ensure health and safety for students, staff, and community

Support our students and their individual needs, specifically students with IEPs, Emerging Multilingual Students, and those who do not have a safe home

Provide as much engaging synchronous instruction time supporting the whole child

Provide consistency and simplicity for families and students

Maintain the number of units of credit students can earn in a year

Minimize the number of adults and courses a student has to manage

Ensure the North Rejoin plan is feasible and manageable for staff, students, and community

Next Steps/ Closing

8 of 68

The 3 Main Things

8

  1. Health and safety is #1. We will collectively do everything that we can to keep each other, our students, and our community safe. As a result, we will be bringing students back slowly.

  • We will not be perfect - GRACE. We will not be perfect with our instruction. We will not be perfect with our protocols. We will not be perfect, but we will have multiple layers and multiple plans so that the “swiss cheese” effect of layer slices on top of each other will provide a robust support system.

  • Follow Expectations - Students must follow the expectations that are shared with them and the reminders from adults.

Friday Blocks

The purpose of Friday Blocks is to put students in the driver’s seat of their own learning and build school community. Many of these ideas came from the November planning day that came from students, staff, and community members.

  • Each Block rotation lasts 4 weeks and students and staff are able to adjust their support and their schedule after this time - 2 rotations per quarter
  • Staff articulate what they are offering during each block - we need to determine priority of assigning blocks
  • Students complete their own schedule for how they are using their Blocks
  • Teachers offer at least 2 blocks (STL offers at least 1 block)
  • Example Blocks
    • Class Period Support for current classes
    • Credit Recovery Support from last semester
    • Clubs (student leadership, trivia, BSA, etc.)
    • Career advising
    • AP support
    • Mental health
    • Student asynchronous work time

Start date is planned for Friday, January 15
