Establishing a Daily Practice
An affirmation, conclusion or an expression of self.
To create music each day
Evoke emotion and establish narrative through sound
as a form of ritual.

Establishing a Daily Practice
I’m on my way into this space, though I think I need to relax a little.
I find myself outside of my intended frame of mind.
I want to find that creative space, light a candle, meditate and emote.
I find myself inspired to work, though not yet inspired to make.

Visiting Practitioner Lecture; Farah Mulla
There’s so much I need to know about the production of VR and the tools of AI.
Fara acknowledge sound as “an energy”.
This reminds me of Annea Lockwood's perspective of witnessing sound with every other entity within the sonic environment.
Re-informing what I’ve learnt already:
Research papers are where it’s at as scientist are definitively in search of truth.
Personal task:
Take a “sound bath”
I wonder; Is it possible to reproduce the physicality of sound within VR?
To create an object that acts as a real-world object does; responding sonically based on its physicality, producing sound based on its physicality.

A “sound bath”
The first environment I think of is the nightlife of Soho.
Experiencing sound.
How do we react?
What, within sound, causes these effects?
Farah Mulla spoke about her experience taking a “sound bath” in the Himalayas, up mountains and around trees. While as of right now in the city I don’t have those things and I’m not going home anytime soon I think the next best thing is to try to actively experience various sonic environments for an extended period of time and see how they have an effect on my physical and mental state.

A “sound bath”
A recording of my sounds from home can be found here;
In work I’m greatly affected by the music playing.
At home I’m greatly affected by the sounds of the trees.
On the train I try to replace sound through my headphones.
I found sound is a great addition to meditation. I thought the moon looked really beautiful so I opened my windows as wide as the could go and just sat and watched. I noticed a spider building a web, the foxes wandering around the allotments and the moths flying by. It made me feel incredibly calm and grateful for the position I’m in and the direction my life has been going.

Garment Design

Bulk hem to add weight and height to the decolletage.
Tapered pattern until the upper waist, thinning its weight.
Reinforced “buckel”[?] to hold up the trouser.
Created with one piece of fabric, sewn down both inside arms.
[Ankle] Should come together as if they’ve been tied tighter than the already apparent taper. I could potentially utilised a wrapped lace.
The main point of the two pieces is to add length to the body. Holding up focal points such as the highpoint of the waist and the shoulders.
I feel as though the upper back may need pinning so as to gain the desired taper and access the view of the embellished waist.
A hood is used to add detail in the form of draping to the back and can utilise the gathered material within the collar’s hem.
I like the idea of having minimal stitching, though this will be relevant to how well I can design the pattern.
I question how low the inside leg should be as I’m unsure how it will appear in motion. There has to be an relationship between height/volume so as to not appear as though it’s restricting movement.

I tested making the jacket in Style3D though I’m going to relook at how I tackle the pattern cutting. After speaking with my sister I think I’ve over complicated it.

I think to have something considered formal, it must be a tradition acted by people of “high standing”, aristocracy or the likes. Though in modern terms of accessibility and the way that the social view of class is now much more diverse, due to western society become centrally and Americanised society. I believe the modern world meaning of the world formal is something that is considered akin to being “on-point”.
Elaborating on this; clothes that are created for public high-society events are no longer keeping to traditionally cut and tailored garments but rather bespoke and original, artistically challenging pieces built in the imagination of reputable designers.
If a sonnet has to conclude of a formal rhyme scheme,
I am unfamiliar with them.
So I’ll write a Petrarchan sonnet and a Shakespearean sonnet, then find my own.

A Petrarchan sonnet
with a rhyme scheme of;
octave ABBAABBA and sestet CDECDE
I try to get my point across to you
or is it me I wish to see a point?
Hedonist or one whom others exploit?
I’ve lost myself in waste that I’ve accrue.
This time, last time and time no longer viewed;
I’m left with guilt of ways I self-disjoint.
I do the least so not to disappoint,
here I try to find a vision I knew:
Vision that gives a greater, wider scope,
a strength that builds on tasks I see complete,
a self, assured; to know that I’m enough.
Only looking to that which gives true hope,
moving forward while steady on my feet,
never once more a want for chasing love.

A Lravian sonnet
…
…
So the issue I’m having with concretely analysing this Lravian sonnet structure is that the terms used to explain the other sonnets by Shakespeare, Petrarch or Spenser cannot be used. Such as the stress pattern of the syllable is sometimes inconsistent along one line, so it does not follow an iambic pattern across the whole line and also does not have five pairs of stressed/unstressed syllables so therefore cannot be called a pentameter. The rhyme structure of each line is also not consistent as to be defined as a quatrain or couplet. I sometimes have a quatrain with two couplets, one that is rhyming and another which is unrhyming. So I very much want to find a way of explaining this sonnet structure, though currently lack the language to do so.

Future Work
As it’s an emerging industry I thinks it’s a good avenue. Though I have many things taking lead of focus in my life right now, so I would have to settle everything and move into a more progressive lifestyle before I could truly immerse myself in this work.
One piece of work I would love
to create in the near future
is an online virtual party.
I currently work in a bar and from curating playlists and testing out tracks on it’s specific demographic I’ve learnt first hand how audio can affect a crowd of people. It’s proven the importance of melody and cadence in music as it directly influences the emotions of customers. I think in a virtual setting the curation of the venue can allow a lot more openness from people to experience many different sounds.

Future Work
Patenting a virtual product could also lead to other workventures and offering a product as a service also opens another avenue of work/life entirely.
Another piece of work I would love
to create in the near future
is a virtual turntable.
DJing has become incredibly popular since pioneer mass marketed their CDJs. My vision is to code a real-time virtual equivalent to use in VR. As apple roll out their first vision pro headset in the next year I see the creation of a virtual turntable to be inevitable and to utilise this within a virtual event would be the end goal.

The Piece; [Concept Audio]
I’ve found that I can combine various elements from my personal life into creating a piece using tested methods of creating art, leaning into the feelings found from leaving home and moving to London.
29th November 2023
I could try to make a comment on my outward perspective of the world, though, with how this year has gone for me personally; I currently need to look inwards.
I knew I wanted to split the audio into 7 channels and how to arrange them within the space. But I had no idea what the audio should be.
So I wondered what the foundations of music were:
From assuming what these properties were I then went on to find what I could use as a subject.

The Audio [Explained]
The Audio [Explained]
This was mapped out along with what I found to be the foundational properties of music which will then be similarly placed within the virtual room.
29th November 2023
I mapped out the things I could subject based on previous creative methods.
Using a one-to-six point of reference, the subjects are featured as follows;
1 the most personal - the old piano at my mums house,
2 the most ideal - the sound of the forests around Snowdonia,
3 the most technical - the sound of creating (even as I type this now),
4 the most expressive - the use and manipulation of voice,
5 the most logical - creating synthetic sounds through DAWs,
6 a point of relation - featuring sounds taken from public media.
