Tips for applying for college

  • Consider bringing any accommodations (IEP/504 plan) to college
  • Check with your targeted colleges about SAT/ACT recommendations
  • Don’t give the same answers about who you are on questionnaires on college applications
  • Present the most well-rounded picture of who you are
  • Take a community college course while in HS
    • 2 year CC then transfer to 4 year can save money
  • Study hard and aim to pass those AP exams (looks good to colleges and saves you $$)
  • Don’t pay a service to help you find scholarships
  • Don’t pick a school because your best friend/boyfriend/girlfriend is going to that school
  • When finding scholarships, prioritize by looking locally first (your church, parents jobs, your HS, etc.) before aiming for national level scholarships
  • When writing essays…
    • What are you bringing to the college you will be attending
    • Be authentic! Don’t have your parents/friends/other family/Chat GTP write your essays
