4A. Pronunciation - Sound and Spelling.

Point out that the /sk/ sound is usually spelled SC or SK. SC is pronounced /sk/ when followed by A, O, or U. SC is pronounced /s/ when followed by E or I (science, scene).

1. Model: Say the sound several times while pointing to it. Then say the sound and quickly read the entire list, pointing to each item as you read it. Learners should just watch and listen.

2. Repeat: Say the sound and each word several times, having learners repeat each time after you in unison. Be sure to use your normal voice and rate of speed. Do one column at a time, top to bottom.

�3. Solo: Call on individuals to say a sound and its word group. Give lots of praise.

4. Challenge: Choose another sound from the lesson that is challenging for your particular students to pronounce. Use words from Parts 1 and 2 of the lesson, and from previous lessons to make a group of 3-5 words. You may repeat the same challenging sounds in several lessons. Students need a lot of practice on sounds that do not exist in their first language.

Forty days after Jesus rose from the dead, he met with his disciples for the last time. They were near Jerusalem.

Jesus told them, “Do not leave Jerusalem. But wait there for what God has promised.

You will receive the Holy Spirit in a few days. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes. Then you will tell people about me. You will do this in Jerusalem. Then you will tell people all over the earth.”

After he said this, Jesus went up into heaven. The disciples watched him go. Then, a cloud hid him from their sight. The disciples stood looking up into the sky.

Suddenly, two angels dressed in white stood by them. They said, “Why do you stand here looking up into the sky? Jesus has gone to heaven. But one day he will come back. He will return in the same way that you saw him go.”

The disciples went back to the city. They went to a house and stayed there. Some women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers were there with them. They waited and prayed.

They prepared themselves for the Holy Spirit.
