Forty days after Jesus rose from the dead, he met with his disciples for the last time. They were near Jerusalem.

You will receive the Holy Spirit in a few days. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes. Then you will tell people about me. You will do this in Jerusalem. Then you will tell people all over the earth.”

After he said this, Jesus went up into heaven. The disciples watched him go. Then, a cloud hid him from their sight. The disciples stood looking up into the sky.

Suddenly, two angels dressed in white stood by them. They said, “Why do you stand here looking up into the sky? Jesus has gone to heaven. But one day he will come back. He will return in the same way that you saw him go.”

The disciples went back to the city. They went to a house and stayed there. Some women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers were there with them. They waited and prayed.

They prepared themselves for the Holy Spirit.
