Relative Humidity - P. 60 Absent? Watch this video. Handout

Class handout. Demo based on video. - MADE HANDOUTS FOR EVERYONE.

Saturation - the maximum amount of a substance that can be held; Air can only hold so much water at a given temp.

Other examples:

  • The soil is saturated with water after the heavy rains.
  • Water can only dissolve so much salt before it is saturated and can’t dissolve more.

Key Concept: The saturation of air is dependent on temperature. Higher temp = holds more water.

Relative Humidity - P. 60 (Cont’ed)

Absolute Humidity = the amount of water in the air.

Relative Humidity = is the amount of water relative (compared to) the amount it can hold at that temp.; %

Dew point = rel. humidity reaches 100% = saturation → water condenses out

Latitude: Draw a diagram of the Earth. Explain how the temperature changes with latitude & why.

Altitude: Draw a diagram with different elevations (heights). Explain how the temperature changes with altitude & why.
