Activity 1

For the next two lessons, you will be working in groups to create a presentation on cyberbullying. You will present this in your groups to the class. Your audience is your peers. You will find out more about this later on in the lesson.

Before you begin, you will learn how to plan effective presentations.

How to find images that are labelled for reuse

This is a good time to talk to your learners about copyright. Learners should be aware that they can’t just take any image they like from the internet and use it as their own. This could infringe copyright law.

Images have different licences and when people publish an image, it is good practice to give that image a licence. Google has a feature that allows you to filter images based on their licence. There are five categories to choose from. ‘Labeled for reuse’ is a fairly safe option for learner presentations. However, if they were to publish their work, then they would need to double-check the licence with the website that the image came from.

Note: Creative Commons also has an image search feature based on licences here: search.creativecommons.org. This will be covered in more detail in Year 7 unit entitled ‘Gaining Support for a Cause’.

Steps for your team:

Choose a team leader who will create the original presentation file and share it with your group.
Decide on a colour scheme/fonts to use, but manage your time effectively.
Create an outline for your presentation — think about what will be displayed on each slide.
Divide the slides between your team members (add names to the owners of the slides).
Each team member works on their own slides.

Focus your time this lesson on the content of each slide. There will be time next lesson to add images, etc.
