High School:

Transition planning for Grades 9-12

Introduction text here

Schools are the bridge that connects students to their futures.

What is the student’s role in transition planning?

  • Practice Self-Advocacy with parents, teachers, and peers

  • Begin to assess potential for post-secondary education (College or Technical schools)

  • Participate in extra-curricular and community activities

  • Identify your interests/preferences in vocational areas to help determine best strategies for future planning

Pre-ETS

Pre-Employment Transition Services are five services required by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (2014) to be provided to high school students between the ages of 14 through 21 who have been identified as a student with a disability.

Students, families, or guardians pay no money for Pre-Employment Transition Services. Pre-Employment Transition Services are provided or coordinated by the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services to introduce and expose students to employment, help them make informed choices, learn acceptable work habits, and acquire real work experience.

Pre-Employment Transition Services may be provided to an individual student or students with disabilities in a group format. Pre-ETS offer students with disabilities an early start at career exploration and preparation for adult life.

**This program is school-based but includes components that will require students to complete their components in a real work environment or setting.
