  • Family members in DAR = fastest way to membership
  • Chapter Registrar provides research help and guides prospective members through the process

How DAR Defines Patriots

How DAR Defines Patriotic Service:

  • Service to the Revolution between April 1775 – November 1783
  • Age 12+
  • Four primary types of service
    1. Signers of the Declaration of Independence
    2. Military Service: Honorable service in Militia or Continental Army, no minimum time
    3. Civil Service: Town clerks, selectmen, tax assessors, sheriffs, constables, road surveyors, judges, jurors, moderators
    4. Patriotic Service: Patriotic Committees, Oaths of Allegiance, Spying, Furnishing Supplies, Paying supply tax, signing petitions, POW’s, supporting troops: nursing, sewing, feeding, etc
  • 5000+ African American patriots identified
  • Special databases for Patriots of Color & Native Americans
