Cap and Gown Reminders

Take your gown and stole out of the bag and hang it up - Do not iron or use wrinkle spray
No decorations on the cap
Tassel worn on your left
To comply with turf no heels or boots can be worn
Masks are optional
Talk to your invited guests about carpooling and where to meet after the ceremony

Arrival on Graduation Day

Bring with you:

Index card with your name and line up number
Wear soft soled shoes
2021 Mask (optional)
Please do not bring anything to graduation - no bags, purses, or food/drink/coffee.
Make sure your guests bring their tickets

Arrive no later than 8:00am.
Carpool with your invited guests or get dropped off in the student drop off loop. Parking will be very limited.
Walk to the front entrance and line up according to the number on your index card.

Arrival Video

Now let’s take a look at what you need to know about you and your guests arrival.

Speaker 1: Graduates will need to carpool with their guests, and can be dropped off by 8 am in the lower lot (show students getting out of a car and getting dropped off). Don’t forget your Cap, gown, stole, tassel, index card with your name, LINE UP NUMBER, and mask. (show each one of these)

Speaker 2: Graduates will then make their way to the front of the school. They will see signs with numbers (1-20, 21-30, 31-40 etc). Students need to look at the back of their index card, and check in with the Patriot Ambassador in charge of their number group. (shot of the index card with name and number, shot of sigh with number group, shot of student checking in with Patriot Ambassador, and then going to stand in line)

Speaker 1: All students need to be in line and ready to process into the stadium by 8:45 (shhh I know it is 8:50, but if you are early you are ontime)

Graduate Processional

Graduates will enter the stadium at 8:50 AM.
Graduates will walk around the track on the home side, will cut across the field by the goal post and then walk along the track on the visitor’s side. Mr. Schwartz and Ms. Roberts will lead you in and usher each row - look for their cues!
Walk with a purpose!
Face the stage and remain standing until after the national anthem.

Processional Video

Speaker 1: Now it is time to enter the stadium and begin the Graduation Ceremony.

Speaker 2: At 8:50 Mr. Schwartz and Ms. Roberts will lead the graduates to the stadium gate. The lower lot will be closed at 8:45 so graduates can walk. (show a sped up video of the PAs walking from the bus loop to the stadium gates).

Speaker 1: Graduates will walk around the field from home to the visitor side. Remember to follow the graduate in front of you, maintain social distancing, and walk with a purpose. (fast paced video of PAs processing around the field)

Speaker 2: Look at Mr. Schwartz and Ms. Roberts they will get you into your seats. Hint, There are 20 graduates in each row. (video clip of Ushering students into rows)

Speaker 1: All graduates and guests will remain standing until the end of the NATIONAL Anthem. (image of hand on heart standing for 5, and then sitting in seats)

Ceremony - Crossing the Stage

Look for the staff member (Mrs. Eckerle) who will direct your row to stand.
Take your index card with you.
Approach the stage.
Give your index card to Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Hitchens or Mr. Thompson so that your name can be read as you cross the stage.
Receive your diploma (cover) from Ms. Boldon and SMILE! :)
Return to your row and remain standing until the staff member gives your row the cue to sit down.

Ceremony Video

Speaker 1: Now we will go over how you will get you diploma (cover). (Show image of student receiving diploma cover, or MCPS diploma cover)

Speaker 2: each row will stand in unison and make their way to the stage. Look for the staff to notify the Graduate on the far right. When that graduate stands, the row will follow (Graduate stand, and walk toward the end zone)

Speaker 1: Don’t forget your index card with Phonetic spelling!! When you get to the stage, give your card to Mr. Hitchens, Mr. Schwartz, or Mr. Thompson, they will be reading all 525 names in the class of 2021!! (PAs will act out handing the index card to teacher)

Speaker 2: When your name is called walk across the stage to Ms. Boldon, she will hand you your diploma cover, and whisper words of encouragement, then SMILE, while the professional photographer takes your picture, and make your way off of the stage and back to your row. (PAs will walk across the end zone- get a diploma cover- walk back to their row)

Speaker 1: As a row remain standing until everyone is back, then make eye contact with each other, and sit down together. (PAs will remain standing- make eyes with one another- and sit down in unison)

Speaker 2: PHEW!! What is next!!

Recessional

The front row and back row will be dismissed simultaneously.
Diplomas will be handed out by counselors in the lower gym. Please look for your counselor.
Meet up with your invited guests at a predetermined location.

Recessional Video

Speaker 2: Omg Omg, I think we are almost ready to leave

Speaker 1: we will be dismissing you row by row, and recessing to the front entrance to pick up your diploma.

Speaker 2: Ms. Roberts will lead with the first row, and Mr. Schwartz will lead the last row (PAs simulate the rows leaving front to middle, and then end to middle)

Speake 1: Graduates will pick up their diploma from the front entrance- diplomas are in alphabetical order, so look for your last name, there will be PAs and Wootton staff to help you find your diploma. You may not take a diploma for your friend. (PAs walk up to a table in front of WHS, and receive their diplomas)

Speaker 2: After you have your diploma walk to your pre-planned meeting spot, hug your guests, and thank them for supporting you these last 4 years. (PAs air high 5ing)
