Geographic, Demographic & Economic Perspective
RSM is presently the only degree college in Uttar Dinajpur District of West Bengal, catering the academic aspiration of local youth
The average literacy rate of the district is 59.07% against the National average of 74.04% (2011 Census)
Uttar Dinajpur is the 2nd poorest district of West Bengal, where 21.65% of population lives in dearth of poverty (NITI Ayog, 2023)
26.87% of population are SC, 5.41% of population are ST and 49.92% of population belong to Muslim Minority
Sex Ratio of the district is 939/1000 against national average of 943/1000.
87.95% of population are from Rural region.
All these demographic characteristics imply the vast underdeveloped surroundings of the College from where the students of this College come with academic aspirations.

Achievement of Milestones across Time Line
RSM was established in 1986 while there was only another College in the Uttar Dinajpur district
Primarily, it was affiliated under the University of North Bengal 19-04-1996 and the College came under University of Gour Banga in 26-05-2008.
Dr. D. K. Das took the charge of First Principal on 12.06.1995.
College received UGC recognition of 2(f) & 12(B) on 24.06.1997.
Dr. P. Roy joined College as Second Principal on 24.06.2003.
Distance Learning Centre under Rabindra Bharati University was introduced under DDE on 2004 and PG course in 8 seven subjects were offered from 2005 and PG in two more subjects were offered in 2007.
Computer Training Course (PC Application) for all students under Webel Informatics was started from September, 2004

In 2007, Vocational Courses from 10+2 Level students were introduced in Engineering Technology & computer Maintainance [now known as (ETIT) and Automobile (dropped in 2017].
College was accredited by NAAC at B+ Level on 16.12.2016.
In 2018 College received RUSA 2.0 grant for the purpose of new construction, renovation and procurement for College office, classrooms and laboratories.
In 2019 PG Learning Support Centre under NSOU was opened in 7 subjects

Per day generation of Solar Energy can be checked through Converter Box. Average production of Solar Energy in a sunny day is 5KW. 1. Implementing NEP 2020 poses a significant challenge for the college due to constraints in physical infrastructure and limited financial resources. Student fees are the sole source of revenue for sustaining institutional activities. However, most students come from economically disadvantaged rural backgrounds and are unable to afford increase in tuition fees.
2. Without creating more substantial posts and recruitment of permanent teachers running 4 year UG Programme with dedication would be a challenge for the Institute.
3. Establishing strong academic–industry linkages is another major challenge for our college situated in such a backward region. Without such partnerships, developing an effective Placement Cell remains a distant goal.

4. The publication of a Research Journal by the College is essential to document and showcase the ongoing research activities conducted by our faculty members as well as by our students.
5. Greater emphasis will be placed on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patent Rights to encourage and inspire faculty and researchers to pursue innovation and legal protection of their work.
6. More Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed with institutions both within and outside the state to foster exchanges in teaching, learning, research, and extension activities, thereby exposing students to broader academic and professional opportunities.

7. Similar collaborative efforts will be pursued with Sports Academies and Cultural Organizations across the state and beyond, with the aim of nurturing and showcasing local talent on larger platforms.
8. College plans to actively promote key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its own resources, focusing particularly on quality education, inclusivity, and ensuring no student is left behind.
9. Dissemination of India’s rich knowledge traditions will also be emphasized, instilling in young minds a spirit of integrity and nationalism.

10. College is going to introduce Biometric attendance recording from the forthcoming session as adopted in the GB resolution
11. Vending Machine with incinerator will be installed in the women toilets and girls common room very soon.
12. College also plans to open a crèche for the kids of the employees
13. College also has a plan to open a Sales Counter for all the indigenous products produced either in the Incubation Centre of the College or in other centres using the R&D support of the Incubation Centre of the College.
