High Intensity Programs

  • Increasing
  • More legislative support for retention of students up by 9%  
  • Governor very active in trying to make Community Colleges tuition-free
  • Increased support for students 25 to 55 
  • High Intensity Programs
    • Enrollment is supported by recruitment and retention
    • Fostering high intensity college experiences
    • (document expected from Governors Office) about building more pathways from HS before college. 
    • 90-credit BA/BS programs: Robert Zemsky U Penn architect
    • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities already approved truncated programs(NWCCU) BYU
  • There was a question about high school courses being accepted at SUNY colleges. Context for this question was that there are a number of campuses nation-wide that are implementing 90 credit programs
    • What will oversight be like
    • How are they being assessed?
    • Do they track student success as a function of these courses?
  • Pushing the foundational courses to the HS level. 
  • Is it by cutting out the Gen Ed courses? How exactly would a 90 credit hours degree structured? 
  • What is the relationship of community colleges to the 90 credit degree? 
  • Chancellor’s Statement

Policy Focus Areas: 

  • Protection for undocumented students.
    • Protect DREAMERS.
    • Preparing with Gov office and Atty General on campus engagement with ICE. This is still being worked out.
    • Plans to help with state financial aid 
  • DEI policies: will probably a target.  Will probably restrict federal funding.  We will have to see how this works.  Trump may make changes in Title IX and Title VI . 
    • Q: Support for faculty teaching DEISJ courses: students have lodged complaints or grievances.  This is demoralizing already and with new Trump admin this is only going to get worse.  How is SUNY going to support faculty in these circumstances? 
    • A: defending right to teach DEISJ etc. 
    • Also worried about adjunct faculty 
  • Chancellor worried about
    • predatory for-profit programs by Trump admin State Ed. 
    • Possible cuts to Pell grants.
  • . Threats to reseach programs
