  • Titles of books and journals are italicized. This includes reports (government, business, etc.) cited like books.
    • The role of fathers in child development.
  • The first letter of the title and subtitle (after the colon) are capitalized, as well as proper nouns (names of people and things), acronyms, and state abbreviations
    • When John F. Kennedy visited NASA in Houston, TX: The whole story.
  • If there are two titles (article in a newspaper, magazine, or journal; chapter in a book, etc.) the larger or “containing” work is italicized
    • The father: His role in child development. Journal of Child Development, 28
