Bachelor’s degree, working for patient contact hours, PA school, and career! Each part is special and once it’s done, it’s done.
In PA school, learn to understand. NOT to memorize.
This will help you for exams. For yourself. For your patients.
On PA rotations, they are short but sweet. Only time you will get to experience a specialty before you are looking for jobs! Try to get the FULL picture of what the PA position entails. Not just patient care, but alerts, in-basket tasks, administrative work etc.
Pick the specialty that you ENJOY doing. You will be doing it for 30+ years. Do you enjoy the type of care you give (acute, chronic, inpatient, surgery). Do you like the physical exam you have to do multiple times a day. Do you enjoy the chart documentation. No exam (PANRE), $$ or perks will keep you at a job that you hate.
