About Northside Noise Network (NNN)

  • Echoing Mayor Yemi’s call to make data the theme of 2025, NNN is a grassroots group of residents in northern El Paso County/Colorado Springs using standardized noise sensors to measure and archive the noise pollution impacting their homes.
  • NNN uses fixed, continuous outdoor noise sensors to measure levels of noise pollution before, during and after concerts – and establish no-concert baselines.
  • NNN uses online data reporting and aggregation to create a composite view of the magnitude and extent of Ford Amphitheater noise pollution on our neighborhoods.
  • Additional details available at www.NorthsideNoise.org

About This Data

  • We are impacted residents seeking to document what we are experiencing and provide real, empirical data to inform others. Significant time and effort has been invested in making this data as objective, credible, and useful as possible via reasonable, practical methods. However, we present it with the following in mind:
    • We are using consumer sensors ($100+/ea) instead of professional sensors ($2k+/ea) because we are paying out of our own pockets. We are using noise sensors designed for property monitoring and have found them accurate for our purposes. We would welcome deployment of third-party, fixed, professional sensors in all affected neighborhoods (which is what we believe should have happened in the first place).
    • We are impacted residents, not acousticians. We seek to match the level of analysis to our capabilities (including consulting sensor manufacturer where needed) and would welcome additional data review by objective professionals.
    • We are performing real world, outdoor data collection and are subject to those realities. We make a conscious effort to limit the introduction of any non-concert noise into our data during collection periods. Failing that, we seek to identify it and remove it from our processes.
  • We are confident that our data is generally consistent among our sensors, but cannot guarantee the absolute accuracy of any given sensor, given the constraints above.
