CPSC 4120 / Bard of Cards

Logan Swoyer, Owen Mehle

Game Description

Bard of cards is a card game rouge like where you kill three different types of slimes throughout your run. You are able to add cards and upgrade your cards throughout the playtrough. This ideally will make each run you do slightly different than the last.

The objective of the game is to defeat the big red slime, you get to it by first defeating three small slimes and three medium sized slimes. How you decide to defeat the slimes is up to you, but you will have to use your upgraded cards.

Game Mechanics

The game uses the mouse and no other controls except than esc key to exit the game. You use the mouse to drag cards onto the enemy in order to play them. The mouse is also used to end turn once you have played your maximum amount of cards. The upgrade mechanic allows the player to choose which cards they want to make stronger. Along with upgrading your cards you can add new cards with different abilities to your deck after each battle.

The slimes have a damage indicator next to their health which lets the player know how much damage they will do. Make sure to pay attention to it as you need to make sure you won’t die when you end your turn.

Technical Description

Bard of cards uses an algorithm in order to make the movement of cards fluid. It also uses multiple levels of inheritance in order to allow for an easy programming experience. This allowed us to create cards and augments with very little amount of code

Game Limitations

Future Work

Future versions might have more cards, enemies, and more augments, as well as maybe more interaction between the user and the enemies.

Controls

The controls typically involve using the mouse to select cards and augments to defeat your enemies

There is very limited interaction within the game between the enemies and the cards , its hard to really increase this interaction with cards however

Players can use the mouse to select diff cards to apply different effects on the game. Like dealing damage, healing, and drawing cards. They can also select augments at the start of the game, as well as adding cards to the deck and upgrading these cards
