Arrested in DC, now what?

Charting the path for new arrestees in Washington, DC and the various governmental agencies they encounter within the first 72 hours of being detained

Emily is Arrested Friday at 2:00 pm

  • Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) arrests Emily for misdemeanor simple assault
  • Emily is taken to Fourth District (4D) as the incident occurred at 14th and Spring Road NW
  • Central Cell Block (CCB) is notified

Central Cell Block is under the DC Department of Corrections (DC DOC)

  • DC DOC transportation picks Emily up and transports her to CCB
  • Emily has been transferred from the custody of MPD to the custody of DC DOC
  • Emily arrives at CCB, is fingerprinted and “booked”
  • Emily spends the night in a cell at CCB in DOC custody

DC Superior Court Lock-up is under the direction of the US Marshal’s Service

  • At 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday Emily is transported by DCDOC to the DC Superior Court
  • US Marshal’s take custody of Emily
  • Emily is placed in a holding cell block with other new arrestees
  • While in the holding block cell Emily is monitored by DC Superior Court Security (DC Government)

Presentation in Court C-10 at DC Superior Court

  • Emily waits to be presented at Court Room C-10
  • The US Marshal handcuffs & walks Emily to C-10
  • While in court C-10 Emily is in custody of the US Marshal Service
  • Emily is released and deemed appropriate for general conditions setout by Pre-Trial Services
