Weeks 1-2: Unity Setup

  • Start with a greyboxed version of your game, functional from Day 0
  • Learn fundamentals of Unity by adding additional features and editing your world
  • Learn fundamentals of Source Control with Git by creating a Repo and uploading your game

Week 3: Alpha

  • Continue to build out more features of your game, touching upon 5 major disciplines as you go
    • Game Design: Enemy design
    • Visual Art: Character sprite implementation
    • Narrative: Barks & lore
    • Engineering: Additional Gameplay in C#
    • Audio: Music & SFX implementation
  • Level 2 is formulated so you can focus on the part of the game that excites you most!

Weeks 4: Beta Launch

  • Spend your final week with your core professor to build and upload your game to Itch.io
  • This better mimics what it’s like to be self employed in games
  • It also means you have a shiny new game for your portfolio!
  • Finish with a released 2D Platformer and an introductory understanding of your craft!
  • Everything you need to solo dev and join game jams!

Ten year game industry veteran with credits from Paradox Interactive, Meta, IMVU and Lumosity as well as indie studio founder with Delve Bros and Taelmoor. Willem takes over teaching Level 2 classes when we are experimenting with new iterations of the curriculum.
