Before and After School Care

YMCA: Character Builders & PrimeTime

YMCA Character Builders - Offers on-site before and after school childcare. The program is available before school from 6:30-8:15am. At the end of the day, students can go directly to the YMCA program from their classrooms at 2:45 p.m. (12:20pm on Wednesdays) and can be picked up at any time before 6:00 p.m. Contact the YMCA directly at (858) 514-4411 with questions or for more information.

YMCA Primetime - Offers after school childcare to students who qualify for the tuition free program. Enrollment opens 4/20/26.

Construction

We were under construction for 3.5 years - just finished in August 2024! Every part of our campus is renovated or brand new

  • Many security considerations/updates - single point of entry in office during school hours, 10 ft tall fences, and more
  • Completely renovated 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classroom buildings
  • Reconfigured/resurfaced playgrounds and grass field on upper campus w/new restroom building
  • New two story building with reception, office, health, 4th-5th grade classrooms, makerspace, resource rooms
  • Kitchen/Cafeteria - completely renovated/new
  • Auditorium - renovated w/carpeting and new roof
  • TK/K area (“Kinderland”) complete with three new permanent classrooms buildings and lunch arbor
  • New landscaping and turf areas for outdoor learning & garden boxes

Determining Class Placement

  • Parents will fill out a questionnaire to provide us with information
  • We try to match students to teachers and students to their peers
  • Based on a variety of factors - academic, social/emotional, demographic information
  • Goal is to create balanced classes of boys/girls, learning abilities/needs, etc.
  • For Kinder, we may have interview/assessment/meet and greet with students later in the school year (we will contact you if we move forward with this)
  • Final classes are determined shortly before school starts on August 10th; parents are notified via email the weekend before, usually on Friday (August 7th) at noon

Will possibly begin in March; please come M,T, Th, F between 9:00am to 1:00pm and Wednesday until 11:00am

(arrival and dismissal are busy!)

Legal Age Requirements

  • Transitional Kindergarten (TK) will be offered to students who will be 4 years old on/after September 1st
  • Children must be 5 years old by September 1st to enroll in Kindergarten (no UTK/K combo class)
  • Per District policy, we are not permitted to make exceptions for children who miss the above cut offs
  • Children who are 6 years old by September 1st are enrolled in 1st grade, unless the school site determines that Kindergarten is the appropriate placement (please submit documentation; we may also conduct brief assessments/interviews)

Speech and Language Concerns/Screening

If you are concerned about your child’s speech and language (e.g., articulation, communication skills - receptive/expressive language), please contact our Speech and Language Pathologist, Christina Bays, at cbays@sandi.net

If your child has an IEP, please submit it to Lisa when you register. Our Special Education team will review the IEP and assign a case manager, who will reach out to you before school starts.
