Liberty Lake’s FIRST Lego League will ensure ALL students have an opportunity to participate through an application process that both identifies and addresses student limitations, such as:

  • Organized car pooling.
  • Interest based application vs a skill based student application.
  • Fully funded program through the support of generous donors like you.
  • Food provided for meetings 2+ hours in duration.
  • An entry level Ipad could also be provided if necessary.

What if All Funding is Not Used? Even if fully funded, attentive financial management could result in cost savings. Unless the sponsor specifies otherwise, surplus funding will be used for shortfalls in other budget areas or saved for use next season.

What acknowledgement can sponsors expect? Does the sponsor have a request or idea? Sponsors will be thanked on the back of the team T-shirts and at our team kick off and finale events.

Tax Deductible. Sponsors are eligible for a tax benefit because FIRST Washington is a 501(c)3 charitable corporation. FIRST Washington will provide acknowledgement letters to donors on request for tax deductibility.

SPIKE Kits.

  • This line item allows for 3 Essential kits for each of the four Explore teams ($6,679) and

2 Prime kits ($4,056) for each of the four Challenge teams. These kits are re-used year after year. The younger children at the Explore level are most engaged when they are hands-on; more kits are required to accommodate this need. The minimum kit to student ratio is 1:8 for each team. This 1:8 ratio could pose a challenge in practice and limit team progress.

  • Current advertised baseline price for Essentials kit is $330, and baseline price for the Prime kit is $399. Additional cost assumes a 10% increase in prices from the 2024-2025 sales, 10% WA sales tax, and assumes $15 S&H for Essentials kit and $20 S&H for the Prime kit. The result is an assumed fully burdened cost of $417/kit for Explore’s Essentials SPIKE kit, and $507/kit for Challenge’s Prime SPIKE kit.

“Right Now” SPIKE Kits.

  • This purchase will provide one SPIKE kit per team for the students to experiment with through the summer. The kit will be issued to the coach to manage.
  • The full funding amount for SPIKE Kits is pending review for Congressional earmark funds. Congressional funds would be released on a quarterly basis and are unlikely to be available as teams are formed.. Early purchase of SPIKE kits will offset the entire SPIKE kit need. In other words, this purchase would not be above the total planned purchase amount.

Team T-Shirts. Teams attend the culminating event(s) wearing their custom team shirt with team name.

Shirts will be provided for two coaches and two mentors per team. Sponsors will be listed with a "Thank You"

on the back of the shirts. Amount accounts for the 8 students per each of the 8 teams at Liberty Creek and

Liberty Lake Elementary schools. All costs considered, average T-shirt cost is $17.

Coach Stipend for Two Coaches per Team. Veterans of the program state this is a reasonable expense. Compensating volunteers, even minimally, results in more committed and more involved coaches. Even so, coaches still tend to be the same people who freely give of themselves in other volunteer capacities. The coach solicitation form LL FLL developed asks about volunteer experience. As such, this may be the only instance where these volunteers receive well deserved, while still conservative, compensation for their time. This amount allows for 12

sessions x $50/session plus $300 for the extra effort involved in this rookie season.

Registration and Festival/Competition Fees. The national level of FIRST, FIRST Inspires, and

FIRST Washington both have their own registrations fees. Explore teams will attend only one festival this

rookie season and Challenge teams will attend one competition. See previous “Questions” Bullet to confirm

amount.

Final Pieces of Equipment. Each Challenge team will use a 4’x8’ table to set up obstacles to practice

with their SPIKE robot throughout the season ($1,320 for 4 teams), and each team orders an annual theme kit

which includes a graphic mat for the table top ($460). Additional notebooks are needed to supplement the few

provided upon registration ($495 for 8 teams).

Explore Team Storage Boxes. According to a veteran Explore coach, the kids often tip over the box that comes with the Lego kit. It’s tedious to have to pick up the box and put the Lego bricks back. The teacher/coach highly suggested getting one of these (below) $35 heavy duty organizer boxes per Explore team. Allows for 5 boxes.

Light Food for Orientation and End of Season Close Out.

    • Within days of school start a kick off orientation will be hosted. Content could include sponsor acknowledgement, overview of the program with promotional video to get the group excited for the season and a Ridgeline demonstration using the materials. Students, parents, coaches, mentors, sponsors, and other supporters like the elementary principals will all be invited. While not crucial, it would be nice to make this a special event with light food, beverages and an economical dessert, like a theme sheet cake. The end of the season will be similarly special with the purpose to acknowledge a successful rookie season and all whose contributions made this possible.
    • Guest list will exceed 200 include students, at least one parent per

child, coaches, mentors, sponsors, and school and CVSD administration.

After School Snacks and Snack + Lunch for Festival/Competition. Some children will not have the means or the support to pack an after school snack to sustain them through practice. All students will benefit from an after school snack. If only children who don't have access to snacks are provided for, they will be singled out. This option allows for snacks for students, but NOT coaches and mentors, between school and practice. This covers after school practice snacks @ $8/person x 12 sessions, plus $25 for a snack and lunch at the full day end of season culminating festival/competition.

The Team!

Elementary Principals in Liberty Lake. Liberty Lake FIRST Lego League (LL FLL) would not exist without the support of the elementary principals. They are advisors, communication connection with students/parents, and provide for school space to operate.

- Liberty Creek Elementary, Alisha Alsaker

- Liberty Lake Elementary, Jen Tesky

LL FLL Coordinator, Jacey Harder. Committed to the long term success of LL FLL, Jacey will ensure funds are managed as we all work together to build a first class program. As a retired federal executive, Jacey has proven skills in multi- program management, cost management, Lean Six Sigma consulting and multi-organizational global logistics.

LL FLL Community and Sponsor Engagement Lead, Kyla Scott. LL FLL aligns with Kyla core value of building community and access to enriching resources. Kyla is a professional grant writer and experienced program manager. Among her connection with an extensive list of community organizations, Kyla is also the Owner of Rooted Sonshire where she created a free art club for area students,

Ridgeline High School’s FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team is one of the top on the globe. Their coach, Brandon Dailey, and mentor, Geoff Dean, first engaged with the elementary principals to start FLL. They remain supportive. The Ridgeline HS FRC students will assist as LL FLL mentors as well.

FIRST Washington. Operates FIRST Lego League at the State level. Their staff and online resources provide the administrative support for the LL FLL program.
